Specialist surgery to address differences in breast size and shape

Asymmetrical breast augmentation is a type of breast augmentation surgery that aims to resolve the balance and symmetry of breasts that are significantly different in shape and/or size. Although many women have breasts that are slightly different, this isn’t usually noticeable. However, for some women differences can be far more obvious causing distress and affecting both personal and social life.

At Cosmetic Surgery Partners’ London Clinic, our consultant cosmetic surgeons have unique experience in breast surgery. We have the specialist expertise to devise and develop an asymmetrical breast augmentation surgery plan that addresses specific unevenness whether in shape, size or dimension based on advanced techniques.

Asymmetrical breast augmentation surgery in London

In breast asymmetry, every case is completely different with an entire spectrum of unevenness including full development of one breast and no development of the other. Asymmetrical breast augmentation surgery aims to match the breasts as closely as possible. This may involve a combination of implant surgery and specialist techniques designed to even the breasts’ appearance.

Our London-based surgeons address size inequality through different volume implants. This follows the principles and procedures of breast augmentation surgery using world-class teardrop cohesive silicone gel implants. We can also reduce the size of a breast to match a smaller breast (breast reduction surgery).

Differences in nipple height and the diameter of the areola (the darker skin immediately surrounding the nipple) can also be addressed. At Cosmetic Surgery Partners’ London Clinic, we use surgical methods to create a more symmetrical look including breast uplift surgery (also known as mastopexy). This advanced procedure is effective in reshaping breasts making dimensions more uniform.

What do I need to consider for asymmetrical breast augmentation surgery?

It’s important to take the time to really consider the asymmetry of your breasts. Is there simply a size difference or would you like to see other corrections such as even nipple height/direction or more uniform shape? Think about which breast you prefer. This provides a good starting point to help us gain an understanding of what you’d like to achieve during your consultation.

Is it possible to make my breasts identical?

Like all surgery, asymmetric breast augmentation has limitations so it’s important to be realistic about what can be achieved. 2 breasts that are completely different cannot be identical – but they can be far more similar than they were.

What breast implants do you use?

At Cosmetic Surgery Partners we use Nagor breast implants made from cohesive silicone gel. They carry a lifetime guarantee against rupturing and are available in various sizes and profiles. The added benefit of Nagor implants is they carry the CE mark of approval which means they are deemed safe by European standards. This also guarantees that the implants have been tested not to interfere with hospital equipment, particularly life-saving apparatus.

What is breast uplift surgery (mastopexy)?

This surgical procedure lifts and reshapes sagging breasts. It is used within asymmetrical breast augmentation to lift the nipples to a more balanced position and reshape the breasts for more even dimensions.

If your surgery plan includes breast uplift surgery, there are significant consequences to consider. These include scarring, the potential greater loss of nipple sensation and the fact that breast feeding may not be possible in the future.

How can I physically prepare for breast surgery?

As with any surgery we want our patients to stop smoking as this affects the blood supply and the healing process. We would advise all patients to quit smoking at least 3 months prior to surgery and to continue abstaining from smoking after surgery in order to aid the healing process.
