A new type of lip enhancing device has emerged on the market. The do it yourself no-needle lip filler is set to be an alternative to popular traditional lip fillers such as Restylane, Botox and Sculptra, but where is the science? Is it a science fact or is it another one of those Cosmetic Surgery myths? It wouldn’t be the first time people are paying over the odds for expensive and ineffective skin treatments and bogus fillers. The Daily Express newspaper ran an article about “Bizarre Beauty Fixes” and asked expert UK surgeon Mr Miles Berry MS, FRCS (Plast) of Cosmetic Surgery Partners to comment on the ‘bizarre’ device known as the ‘Luscious lip plumper’.

The luscious lip plumper works by gently sucking your lips outward whilst creating a mellow vacuum that is said to promote cell growth, and therefore allow your lips to become bigger after prolonged usage.

“It is an interesting concept, which may have some basis in science. The negative pressure of the vacuum could encourage the growth and development of blood vessels. This might then lead to actual tissue growth.”

At a relatively cheap cost the device is rather inexpensive, whether or not if works for you we cannot guarantee. However, what we know for sure is that many of our patients have had very positive results with lip enhancement using lip fillers such as juvederm.
